When you open a tap after some time (morning, after a trip, or in rarely used bathrooms), pay attention to the first few seconds. If the water looks cloudy, rusty, or slightly brownish before clearing, it can indicate sediment or rust in the pipes or tank.
Occasional slight discolouration can happen after supply issues, but regular rusty bursts are a sign that pipes or storage tanks need cleaning or replacing. Long-term, that can affect water quality, taste, and even stain fixtures and laundry.
Noticing this early and mentioning it to building maintenance or a plumber can prevent bigger issues later, instead of shrugging it off until it gets worse.
