Over years, we hand out spare keys—to house help, relatives, neighbours, old roommates, contractors. Some people move away, some relationships change, but the key may still be out there, forgotten.
Once in a while, it helps to sit down and literally list: who currently has keys to the house? Do we still need them to? If not, can we collect them or change locks?
It’s not about mistrusting everyone; it’s about not leaving open doors you’ve forgotten about. Knowing exactly who can walk into your home at any time is basic security awareness.
